Challenge
Grammarly is on a mission to improve lives by improving communication. Every day, 30 million people around the world use Grammarly’s AI-powered product to strengthen their writing and say what they really mean—better. There are many factors that have led to Grammarly’s remarkable growth since its beginnings in 2009, one of which is the emphasis the company places on delivering a high-quality service that delights its customers.
In support of that important goal, Grammarly wanted real-time data analysis to understand the performance of its software, as well as gain security insights across the organization’s Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud environment. However, using an open source solution to extract the information from the company’s log data became a challenge.
Managing the solution required continued maintenance, and it wasn’t meeting the company’s scaling requirements. Ultimately, Grammarly decided to pursue a solution that would provide strong data analysis and a good user experience for the multiple engineering teams—development, security and infrastructure—that support Grammarly’s customer-facing and internal services.

Solution
The engineering team outlined the criteria for a new solution. The ideal data analytics solution needed to deliver a user-friendly experience and provide powerful scalability to meet Grammarly’s high data ingest volumes. In addition, the team wanted a cloud-based solution that would be easy to set up and required minimal effort to manage as the company scales, expands, and grows into new and existing markets.
After conducting an in-depth evaluation of multiple offerings, including Splunk, Grammarly chose Sumo Logic as the top solution that met all of the company’s requirements.
