Sumo Spotlight highlights Sumo Logic employees from around the globe. This spotlight features Zarogina Azocar, Instructional Design Manager based in California.
Describe your role at Sumo Logic
I joined Sumo Logic in 2019 and currently lead the Instructional Design team, responsible for creating technical training assets including our popular microlesson program, self-paced training and instructor-led training materials.
Before joining the Sumo family, I most recently worked as a Senior Manager of Certification at MapR Technologies. I transferred from the Hewlett Packard Venezuela office to the Bay Area to join HP's training department in 2000.
What do you like most about your job?
There are a lot of opportunities to be creative and contribute to the company’s success besides my regular job activities. Sumo Logic has a great source of inspiration in the many employee resource groups that have an active role in daily Sumo life. I have been inspired and motivated to expand my personal knowledge and perspective in many ways.
One event that I think was very impactful for me was last year’s Earth Day, our Planeteers ERG had Steve Smith as a guest speaker with his keynote titled View from Above - An Astronaut's Perspective on Saving the Planet. This presentation helped me recommit to choices for a healthier planet.
What parts of our mission and/or values do you most connect with?
We have a single agenda in whatever we do to empower our customers to achieve reliability and security in their digital experiences. Having been a customer support field engineer in the past and having a degree in engineering, I can attest to how our platform excels at its mission and that brings a full-circle perspective into my career and professional interests.
What have been your proudest accomplishments while at Sumo Logic?
I have reached many milestones here at Sumo Logic, but the one I am most proud of is building an Instructional Design practice from the ground up and witnessing my team grow and being recognized for their mastery and capabilities throughout the company.
Zarogina is an avid paper crafter and volunteers at her local Kaiser Hospital where handmade cards are distributed to hospitalized patients. She also collects folk art and vintage-inspired pottery and loves her rescue cat Freya.
Can you share more on how Sumo Logic helps train and educate our customers and the benefits?
One of the things I love the most about my job is working with a group of professionals who deeply care about customer success. We are a critical part of the customer journey and are laser-focused on creating training that meets the customer's needs.
During the pandemic, we seamlessly transitioned to a model that includes different delivery formats to adapt to customers and provide training resources when and where they need them. Our catalog offers resources in different delivery formats including online (live and on-demand) and in-person training (for free!), and because we adopt a modular content approach we are able to customize learning experiences based on the customer journey with the product.
And lastly, I would be remiss not to mention our very popular microlesson series, which currently hosts about 100 short videos and has accrued more than 15,000 views from customers, prospects and partners around the world.
Name a role model or person who inspires you.
My family. We have moved forward as a unit through many of life’s challenges, and we support and inspire each other every day.
